Auction Submit tm User Guide
Downloading and Installing Auction Submittm
  1. System requirements: Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, ME, or NT operating system, 20 megs of space available on hard drive (Auction Submit will not take up this much space, but to accomodate the downloaded files and installation program this would be conservative). In addition if you are an AOL user, you must be using either AOL 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, or 7.0.

  2. To make installation easier, be sure to note where on your computer the download is going. Depending on your browser and especially if you are an AOL user you might want to stay active on the web by checking your email, browsing the web, or just reloading this webpage every 10 minutes or so. Some browsers or service providers do not recognize a download as activity and will cut you off after 15 minutes or so if you do not do this. You might also want to print out this page.

IMPORTANT:   If you already have a copy of Auction Submit 3.0 with listings in the database but are downloading a new copy with the intention of re-installing, be sure to backup your database:   All auction data is stored in a file called storage.mdb which is located in your AuctionSubmit folder that is in your Program Files folder (assuming that you used the default location when you initially installed the software.) Just copy the entire storage.mdb file and paste it into an alternate location (outside of the AuctionSubmit folder) When you reinstall Auction Submit, you can paste a copy of the old storage.mdb file that you backed up into the new AuctionSubmit folder and overwrite the new (empty) version of this file.

  3. To start downloading the latest version of Auction Submittm Click on one of the following links:

  4. Here is a detailed description of everything that should happen when you download Auction Submit:

    1. When you first go to the download site, you may either get a small window with 4 buttons on it (Netscape), a dialog "Save As" screen, or a warning window with a message asking if you want to save the file (Internet Explorer). IMPORTANT: If you are using Internet Explorer make sure that the "save to disc" option is checked on this warning window.

NOTE: If neither of these windows appear but the download starts immediately then click the "Cancel" button, go back to the download link, hold down your "Shift" key and then click the link.

    2. After you click the SaveFile button (Netscape) or OK button (Internet Explorer) or if you used the "Shift" key method above you should get a "Save As" dialogue window. You can direct exactly where on your computer you want to download this file to. Do not download to your desktop. A typical place would be the Temp folder on your C drive - sometimes this folder is located inside the Windows folder - sometimes it is called Download - It really is not that important which folder you put it in, you just want to know where it is going so that you can find it later.

To designate the folder that you want to download to, click on the down arrow next to the "save in" box at the top of the "SaveAs" window and click on the Cdrive icon. You will then see an alphabetical list of the folders in your C drive. Double click on the folder that you want to save the download to, then click SAVE.

    3. After you download Auction Submit, open Windows Explorer, go to the folder that you downloaded to, and double click the auctionsubmit icon. You should get a window titled, "WinZip Self Extractor(Auction Submit.exe)" with a "Setup" button.

    4. When you click this setup button all the files should unzip, your screen should automatically open to a full screen blue background with a window titled "Auction Submit(tm) Setup" that says "Welcome to the Auction Submit Installation Program". This screen should have an OK button.

    5. When you click the OK button you will get a window where you specify the location to install the software (the default is C:\ProgramFiles\AuctionSubmit) then click on the computer icon.

    6. The files are then installed and you are notified that installation is complete.

    7. You should be able to find Auction Submit 3.0tm in the "Program" section of your "Start" Menu and open the software from there. You can also use Windows Explorer as follows: Go to the C:\ProgramFiles\AuctionSubmit directory (this assumes that you used the default directory),double click the auctionsubmit3 icon and Auction Submit 3.0 should open.

    8. You might also want to add a shortcut to your desktop. You can do this by right clicking on an empty space on your desktop, moving the cursor over the "New" option, clicking on "Shortcut" and following the prompts. The other way to do this is use Windows Explorer to find the AuctionSubmit folder and then just drag the icon for auctionsubmit to the desktop. NOTE: If you have a shortcut on your desktop from an earlier copy of Auction Submit, you should delete it.

    9. When you open Auction Submit(tm) for the first time you will be asked to register your copy of the software. You must be online to do this. This requires only minimal information, gives you a chance to sign up for our updates mailing list, and only takes a minute.

PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED AUCTION SUBMIT USERS NOTE: If you are upgrading from Version 2.0 or Version 2.0.1, when you get to the registration screen you should click on the "Import Database" button at the top of the registration screen. You do not have to register again. This will import your old database to your new copy of Auction Submit 3.0 .

When you click this button you should get an "Import Auction Submit2 Database" window. This function is designed to automatically open your old auctionsubmit(tm) folder and select your database file (named manager.mdb). In most cases you should just have to click the Open button. If you did not originally use the default installation location for Auction Submit 2.0 or are not using the default installation location for Auction Submit 3.0 , you will need to make sure that this screen is opened to your old auctionsubmit(tm) folder and selects the manager.mdb file. Click Open.

Your database will be imported. When this is complete you will get a "Registration is Complete" message window. When you click OK on this window, Auction Submit will open.

NOTE:   We make frequent updates to Auction Submit(tm) which you will be able to easily install. There may be a lag time in uploading updates to the full version, so the possibility exists that the version that you have downloaded is not the latest version. It is recommended that you check for any updates as follows:
Get online, close all other applications, click on the "Modules" dropdown menu at the top of your Auction Submit 3.0 screen, and select "Update Modules". You should see a few status screens and then get a Done Updating window. Just close this window and within 30 seconds (please be patient) Auction Submit should reappear with all updates installed.

Congratulations -- Auction Submit is installed. Find ways to enjoy the time you save submitting to online auctions.
